Dawn Lagerstedt creates functional artwork using durable stoneware clay. She enjoys the plasticity of the earthen material. The versatility of manipulating the material into varying shapes fascinates her.  Its form, surface textures, and effects with colors can be achieved through a variety of techniques. She begins with an idea or shape in mind, though the clay often tells her how the piece will be finished.

Most of her work is created on a potter’s wheel, though she also creates with hand building techniques. When adding color, she likes overlapping glazes to have the finished effect of a multitude of flowing variations. She creates designs ranging from floral motifs to simple line designs, and by painting with underglaze.
